Radici Avventizie :: Adventitious roots

In botanica, si definisce avventizia la radice che si sviluppa fuori dal consueto apparato radicale, generalmente immerso nel suolo. Fuori luogo e spesso anche fuori tempo, le radici avventizie si trovano lungo i gambi e persino sulle foglie delle piante. In alcuni casi rappresentano strumenti di resistenza alle condizioni di penuria. La mia crassula iniziò a sviluppare radici avventizie per recuperare, dall'umidità dell'aria, un po' di sostegno vitale, facendo così fronte ai lunghi periodi di siccità impostale dalla mia incuria in un periodo di personale desolazione. Strumenti di salvezza e resistenza, le radici avventizie permettono sostentamento e crescita in condizioni precarie. Le orchidee, le graminacee nei nostri campi e sui cigli della strada, le mangrovie con le loro radici avventizie giganti, sono la prova vivente di come una vita di resistenza possa essere anche luminosa.

In botany, an adventitious root is defined as a root that develops outside the usual root system, usually immersed in the soil. Out of place and often out of time, adventitious roots are found along the stems and even on the leaves of plants. In some cases they represent means of resistance to shortage conditions. My crassula began to develop adventitious roots to recover some life support from the moisture in the air, thus coping with the long periods of drought imposed on it by my neglect during a period of personal desolation. Tools of salvation and resistance, adventitious roots allow sustenance and growth in precarious conditions. The orchids, the grasses in our fields and on the roadsides, the mangroves with their giant adventitious roots, are living proof of how a life of endurance can also be luminous.
